The Stork is coming
To

New Jersey Beagles

Watch closely as our stork story unfold.  We'll take you right through the pregnancy of our girl and births of her long awaited precious puppies.

Wendy was bred on March 25th.  It's a little too soon to be 100% sure whether her breeding took or not, but she does seem to be showing some signs.  At just 30 days into her pregnancy, she's starting to lose her waistline.  Wendy will be due around May 24th.

So you ask, who is going to be a daddy,
Jake or Sam?

Well, we decided to let the dogs make that choice.  After all, why should we interfere with love, marriage, and a puppy carriage.  It was very interesting to watch as Wendy would stand for one handsome stud, or the other.  I often wondered, just what was their criteria when deciding who would sire their family?  Sammy, our number one stud dog was more than ready to court our girl and pass those wonderful genes down to a new litter of pups, but when it came right down to it, Wendy only had one guy in mind.

YES, my little baby boy JAKE will be the daddy to both litters!
As Randy Jackson would say, "Jake, you're the bomb dude!"

Yup, he's young, he's handsome, and he was definitely UP for the job.
CONGRATULATIONS FIRST TIME DADDY,
TEE'S SUNRISE JAKE FROM CAMELOT.

May 1st puts Wendy exactly at 40 days into her pregnancy.  It seems Wendy knew she was expecting way before she showed any outward signs.  I noticed right after she was bred she stopped running with the rest of the dogs.  She spent much more time just resting and taking it easy.  She's pretty big for still having 23 days to go.  I have a feeling it's another BIG litter.

In the photo below, Wendy is cooling herself in a puddle of water from a leaky hose.  She's quite the little water dog, and is the first one in the pool on those hot summer days.

And then there's daddy Jake.  Truely a BIG kid himself.  Jake is a great dog with a wonderful temperament.  Definitely a sweet little guy who just loves attention and affection.  Between his personality, and Wendy's easy going disposition, this litter is sure to have GREAT pups, and how interesting it will be to see what color the pups come out looking like.   It won't be long now!

May 2, 2006

Wendy was out for her daily stroll this afternoon.  Wendy got herself nice and comfy lounging in her favorite mud puddle to beat the heat.

May 7th finds Wendy with 17 days to go.  There's really not much to report about her.  She's plugging along and enjoying her time out of the kennel each day.  Today she was staying out of mud puddles and basking in the Sun.  Definitely in a quiet, relaxing mood while all the other dogs run, play, and cut up around her.  Not much affects Wendy.  She kind of rolls with the punches.

Wendy on the other hand already thinks her babies are here.  She's been walking around the yard with this stuffed ball all day.  She won't let anyone near it, and protects it like it's her first born.  And if you notice, our fish pond is no more.  It's now a planter, but even so, the dogs love hanging around it just as much!

May 21st was a VERY special day for Wendy.  She had nine beautiful, healthy puppies.  Three lemon and whites, three tri-colored, and three chocolates.  Every pup more beautiful then then next.

I'm sooooo proud of you girl!

Wendys pups are two days old, and I couldn't be happier with their progress.  Each one has found mommy's milk and are having no trouble sucking.  The pups are gaining weight steadily and are usually a little heavier from one weigh in to the next.  Even our smallest puppy (#6) is starting to put on some serious weight, and can usually be found close to mommy's nipple most of the time.  The puppies are happy, content, and doing great.

Wendy is doing really well.  She's a little on the tired side, but certainly makes sure her puppies needs come first.  There's no place she'd rather be the with her pups.  Even a big bowl of liver isn't enough to make her want to leave her puppies, so I wind up bringing her food and water to her.  Yes I spoil my dogs, but doesn't she deserve a little pampering at this time?!

Wendy is extremely careful not to accidentally lay on a puppy, and if one of the pups strays a little too far away from the pack, she very gently picks him up in her mouth and brings him right back where he belongs, close to mommy.

Only five days old, but Wendy's pups are growing like a weed.  Even our little runt weighs over 9 ounces, and is definitely catching up to the rest of the pack.   As you can see, mommy never wants to be too far away from her babies.  I have to actually pick her up and carry her outside just so she'll take a potty break and get some exercise.  Once she's done, it's back inside straight to her family.

For those of your who REALLY want to see what feeding time is like.  Click on the movie link for an action shot.  I'll warn you, it will take a minute or two to upload, so be very patient.

The pups are one week old today and are doing great.  Their eyes and ears are still shut, but will begin to start opening in the next few days.  Here you see them taking a nap while mommy is outside stretching her legs.  Wendy is starting to be a little better about leaving them for a few minutes now.

May 31st it not only Katie's last day on the Today Show, but Wendy's pups are also 9 days old.  They're eyes are just starting to peek through their closed eye lids, and will more than likely be completely open within the next couple of days.  These beautiful little guys are getting stronger every day now, and are even attempting to get up on all fours.  All the pups are gaining weight daily and are doing fantastic.

We're two weeks old, and yes, we have eyes!

Nine little angels sound asleep

The puppies are now three weeks old.  They can see, hear, and have little tiny teeth.  They're now up on all fours and walk from one side of their crate to the other.  They not only enjoy sleeping and cuddling together, but now have discovered playtime and make cute little growling noices when they're horsing around with each other.    Wendy is great mom and as you can see from the photos, keeps her puppies and their home extremely clean.  She was definitely born to be a mommy.

Happy Father's Day Daddy Jake
Here's Jakes babies at four weeks old.  All doing great.  All as sweet as can be.  Really looking like little dogs now, the pups are just three weeks away from going home with their new families.  In another week we will start the process of weaning them from their mommy.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY JAKE

Feeding Time
The pups are enjoying their puppy food these days.  This is the beginning of the weaning process.  Wendy is already enjoying more and more time away from her pups.  In another week we'll slowly start removing her more and more until finally the pups will be spending their nights without mommy.   A sad but necessary transition.

As you can see from the photos, we have one little photo ham.  One of our tri-colored little boys seems to enjoy his picture being taken.

June 27th and a photo of 6 of our 9 pups looking through the kennel

June 29th and just about another week or so to go before these little dolls leave with their new families.  Playful, sweet, loving little puppies.   Here the pups play while they're waiting to go back into their kennel.  Patiently waiting in their little holding pool is a daily routine as their kennel gets cleanned and bleached.

Look at me NOW!

I'm puppy #5
I'm the biggest puppy in the litter, and I have a personality just like my daddy.  I always want to play and no matter where I am in the pack, I ALWAYS squeeze my way up to the front to be the first in line.  I'm very loving and cuddly, and I LOVE having my picture taken.

I'm puppy #1
I was the first puppy born.  I had an easy time being born which paved the way for all my brothers and sisters.  I'm the BIGGEST licker in my litter and love being held, especially on my back.  I'm a happy puppy and I LOVE people.

I'm puppy #4
I'm a sweet little puppy and love being cuddled and hugged.  I like playing with my brothers and sisters and bite their tales when we're wrestling.  I have a cute little puppy growl, and I'm always the first one to pop my head out when Terry comes to get us in the morning.  I love being in the middle of whtever is going on.

I'm puppy #2
I like spending my time hanging out on the steps to my kennel.  I sit there and play with my toys all the time.  I was the first one to venture out of my whelping area and walk down the steps all by myself.  That's a pretty brave thing to do.  I'm kind of on the quiet side, but I love to be held.  I'm a good little boy with the sweetest face.

I'm puppy #3
Today we went outside in the kennel with the big dogs and we had a great time.  I played so much that I pooped myself out.  I've been told that I look just like my grandma Cami and I have her great personality too.  I love being held and cuddled just like my littermates, but when I'm tired I cuddle up in a corner all by myself and go to sleep.

I'm puppy #8
When I was little I used to scream everytime someone picked me up.  I used to be scared and shy, but not anymore.  Now I run for the kennel door everytime someone comes near.  I want to be picked up and loved.  I love to play with my brothers and sisters, and when we wrestle I'm ALWAYS the puppy on the top.  Nope, I'm not shy or scared anymore!

I'm puppy #7
I'm such a handsome little boy.  I have blue eyes and a copper colored nose just like my grandma and daddy.  I'm a quiet little guy and love to lay on my back and have my tummy rubbed.  I'm a cuddler just like the rest of my littermates, and I love being outside with the big dogs.

I'm puppy #9
I'm a very quiet little boy.  I have my playful side too, but I like being by myself sometimes.  I love being held like a baby, and Terry thinks I look just like my mommy, especially in the eyes.  I have a cute little hound face with long beautiful ears.  I love running around in the big kennel outside.

I'm puppy #6
I was born the smallest puppy in the litter.  I might be small but boy am I a spitfire.  I have lots of energy and I don't take any bullying from the bigger puppies.  I'm small but I'm tough.  Oh yeah, I will lick your face until it's clean.

To sum it up, these are the sweetest, most loving and people friendly puppies I think we've ever had.  Every one of them has a great personality and temperament.  I'm so pleased, especially since they were born right in the middle of us packing and moving, but they handled it great.

They leave in just one week and I'm already starting to miss them.

Believe it or not, this is our Jake just one year ago to the day.  Click on Jakes baby picture (taken June 30, 2005) to see a video of his kids with Wendy.  This is the last time the pups will nurse.  As of today they will be totally weaned and ready to face the world without their mommy.  Tonight is their first night out in the big kennel with all the other dogs.  They'll sleep alone while mommy goes back with her old roommate Bonnie.

So far, not a peep from anyone.

Our New Puppy

It took Katharine about three minutes to decide puppy number nine was the puppy for her.  Once she did, there was no looking back, and rightfully so... This little guy (Jesse) is a sweet, quiet pup who looks just like his mommy and definitely seems like a perfect fit for this great family.

If you think you're looking at Ben Afflect, you're not, but boy did I take a double take.  Angelo and Judy are the lucky couple to get our chocolate little girl, puppy number 4.  Actually, I think I'm the lucky one because they live right in the same town as me, so I get to see Cocoa or Daisey (not quite decided on a name yet) grow up.

How lucky is Ranger?  Puppy number seven, our handsome little chocolate and white male met his new mommy and daddy today.   Deb and Scott flew in on their own private plane just to pick him up.  Ranger will be flying home to Connecticut where his big sister Rebel and Grandpa are waiting to meet him.  And I thought getting a dog acclimated to driving in a car was important.  Looks like Ranger is going to have to get used to airplanes with his new family.

Geri, Jeff, and the kids are just thrilled with their new puppy.  Jet, puppy number 6 is the newest member of the Durgin family, AND, he has a big surprise when he gets to his new home and finds the families 4 year old lab Sandy waiting for him.

Max and Mary knew exactly which two puppies they wanted, and luckily for them, they were BOTH still available.  Puppy number five will now been known as Buster, and puppy number eights new name is Cookie.  Two sweet little babies going to a home where they'll get lots of love.

Leila and her family decided on puppy number two, our lemon and white male.  A very handome little puppy who made one little girl VERY happy.  His new name, Simba....

Crystal, Mike, and Max didn't take very long to pick our their new little girl.  Our sweet puppy number one is now the newest member of the Wagner family.  AND, her new name is now Jersey.

I'm the last puppy left.  My new mommy isn't coming for me until tomorrow.  Click on my picture and see how I spent my last day at New Jersey Beagles all by myself. :(

Here's another one of me taken this morning as I was waiting for my new mommy to come and get me.  :(    Click on my daddies picture to see.

HER

NEW

MOMMY

BOBBIE

Bobbie had no choice which puppy she was getting.  She was the last person on the waiting list, but it was definitely LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!  AND, what's not to love about this beauitful little puppy who is now going to go by the name of Blondie.  Very fitting.  Bobbie, her son, and daughter in law all left with adoring smiles on their faces.  And Blondie, well, I'm still smiling just thinking about the WONDERFUL last day she had here at New Jersey Beagles.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL MY FAMILIES

At six days old we have nine hungry little puppies at feeding time, and one very content loving mommy.
