The Stork

is
 coming

to

New Jersey Beagles

Times Two

That's right... Both Powder and Shelby are expecting little ones this April.  Both girls are due just two days apart.

NOW,

lets meet the happy couples

Powder and Sammy are expecting their family around April 18th.  This is the first time these two dogs have been bred together, so we're very excited about this breeding and can't wait to see their adorable little puppies.  Sammy carries the lemon and white gene, so we always wind up with one or two lemon puppies from his litter, but Powder has never had a lemon and white puppy before.  It will be interesting to see just how strong Sammy's lemon gene is.  Go Sammy!

Shelby and Jake's puppies are due April 20th.  This is the first time these two great looking beagles have been bred together as well, so we're also excited about what colorings we might wind up with.  With Shelby's reddish coloring and Jake being lemon and white, it's very possible we just might see a few chocolate beagle puppies in this litter.  What a great looking couple they are!

Come back and watch closely as Powder and Shelby's stork page unfolds.  We'll take you right through the pregnancy of both our girls and births of their long awaited precious puppies.

It's March 26th.  Powder is 40 days into her pregnancy, but the only thing on her mind these days, and Sammy's for that matter, is picking up on the scent of a resident chipmunk.  Obviously he hasn't quite figured out yet that he is playing a game of russian roulette by hiding under their kennel.

Sammy is hot on the trail as Powder watches her man.
I'm thinking this chipmunk better find a new home, FAST!

Then there's Jake and Shelby who just opt for a stress free stoll on a beautiful spring morning.
Tagging along for a little on the job training is Bonnie's little baby, Stella.

Powder and Shelby are both looking and feeling pretty good.   Not much has changed in their daily routine, except taking things at a little slower pace then usual.  Both girls are enjoying the nicer weather and the freedom of hanging in the kennel yard, where they spend most of the day sunning on the kennel deck.

April 8, 2008

Powder and Shelby are getting very close to their due date.  Shelby with 12 days to go, and Powder with only 10 days left.  The girls are still sleeping in the same kennel, but within the next few days they will be separated so they each have their own house to do their nesting in.  The pups are kicking all over the place and growing bigger everyday.  Shelby has reached her needy part of the pregnancy, but Powder is still as independent as ever.  Click here
to see a video of the girls taken just this afternoon.

Jake is and how well he takes care of his little Shelby.

April 14,2006

Shelby is doing great.  She's due the 20th of this month, so she's less than a week away from her due date.  She's not real big this time but I'm guessing a nice size litter of about six puppies.

Powder on the other hand is HUGE!  I'm guessing at least eight puppies in her litter.  She not only looks uncomfortable, she feels uncomfortable.  Her tummy is huge and swings from side to side when she walks.  The pups are ready to be born.  All they're doing now is growing bigger and bigger everyday.  I honestly don't think Powder's going to make it till Friday.  She seems to feel pretty good and still has enough energy to walk the kennel yard.   Click here to see our video of her taken this morning.

Shelby surprised us all today (April 15th) by giving birth five days early.  Congratulations to Shelby and Jake on a beautiful, healthy litter of three girls and two boys.  Shelby had a pretty easy time and delivered all five puppies in less than four hours.

Shelby's babies are one day old and doing great.  All the pups are eating and gaining weight very nicely.  Shelby's doing well too.  She's a good mommy and is keeping her family very clean.  The pups hardly make a sound, which means they're very content and happy.
Nice going Shelby!

Powder update 4/16/08  8:00am:  Powder is getting close.  Her temperature has dropped and she has slowed way down.  Instead of walking the kennel yard like they do everyday, Powder has chosen to stay inside her kennel house.  I'm sure she realizes rest is the best thing for her right now.  She has a big job ahead of her and she needs to save up as much energy as she can.

Powder update 5:00 pm 4/16/08

Powder is out for a short bathroom break but is definitely anxious to get back  back to her kennel house.  It looks like labor has begun.  Powder has been known to have some pretty long first stage labors.  With any luck we'll have some beautiful, healthy puppies by tomorrow morning, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was later.

April 17, 2008

Congratulations Powder and Sammy on their record breaking litter of 10 puppies.  Six females and four males.  Unfortunately one little female didn't make it, but the nine other puppies look great.  Good job Powdie!

Today (4/21/08)  I'm pleased to say Powder's pups all seem to be doing well.  It was a little touch and go with one of her little male puppies, but he seems to have turned the corner.  Hopefully he'll continue to make progress in the days to come.  Powder is still a little nervous about anyone, including me, getting too close to her puppies, so I don't have any photos of them at this time.  Perhaps over the next few days she'll settle down long enough for me to snap a photo or two.

NOW, onto Shelby's family, plus three houseguests.  Seems three of Powder's bigger puppies are spending a few days with Aunt Shelby.  This will give Powder a chance to nurse the puppies who need the extra milk without having to compete with the much larger pups.

Shelby's pups are doing GREAT!  They're big, beautiful, plump little bears.  Click hereto see the video of Shelby's 4 HUGE polar bears, 1 BIG brown bear, (tri nursing on the left) and also three of Powder's tri colored puppies sharing a little dinner with Aunt Shelby.

Looks like Powder was more obliging today after all.

4/26/08

Powder stops by Shelby's house to see how her other two puppies are doing.  It looks like Monday morning they'll be coming home to their mommy and brothers and sisters.

Shelby's pups are growing bigger and bigger everyday.  Their eyes and ears are starting to open.  Before you know it they'll be up on all fours.

Powder's kids are doing great.  They're all eating well and gaining weight.  Even Powder's little boy is well up over a pound now.  Soon Powder's other two puppies will be reunited with the rest of their family.

4/29/08

Shelby's babies are two weeks old today and now have their eyes open.  Click the photo to see a video taken of them just this morning.

Powder's pups are only two days younger than Shelby's but quite different in size.  I'm happy to report that all of Powder's family is back home now.  Our little guy is doing well and gaining weight nicely even with two extra mouths to feed.  Click the photo to see todays video.

Powder and Shelby's pups are just 3 weeks old now.  All the pups are doing great.  Their eyes and ears are completely open and they're just starting to walk.  Little sharp points are starting to grow out of their gums as their teeth are starting to emerge.  The pups now like to play and wrestle, and even an occassional growl or puppy bark as they're horsing around.  Click on each of their photos to veiw this mornings video.

May 15, 2008

Powder and Shelby's pups met for the first time yesterday.  They live in the same kennel, but the wall between them prevents them from seeing each other.  They don't seem to be very happy, but don't forget, this was the first time they were taken out of their comfort zone, AND with no mommy in sight.  This is just before we're getting them ready for their trip to the vet, which I might add, went very well.   All the puppies got a glowing health report, not to mention 14 little stars among all the vet tecs.   It's a big weekend for the puppies, as they all meet their new families this coming Saturday and Sunday.  Those families are not going to have an easy time picking because every one of these puppies are simply adorable.

OUR NEW PUPPY
The puppy visits have officially begun.  Check back to see which puppies
have been chosen by our waiting list families.

Lucky Janet and Jim were number one on our list for both a male and a female puppy, but they pretty much had their minds made up before they got here.  Janet picked Shelby's one and only little tri colored female, Chelsea, and Jim chose Shelby's adorable lemon and white male, now known as Harley.

Tom, Joann, and Tommy haven't decided on a
name yet for Powder's little girl, but one thing is for sure, she's already got plenty of love.  This sweet little puppy even got the A-okay sign over the telephone as her photo was sent to her big sis at home.

Cory and Irwin would have taken all the puppies if I let them.  But since I wouldn't, they decided on pretty little Brandy for now.  Although they promise a second beagle is not so far in the future, Brandy still won't be an only dog when she leaves for her new home in June.  She has two other dogs waiting there for her to cuddle and wrestle with.

Margo thought she wanted a tri colored puppy UNTIL she saw Shelby's little lemon and white boy.  Mom and dad concur and are delighted with their newest family member, Benny.  I'm sure for one little girl the next three weeks are not going to go fast enough.

Kim, Jim, and the boys can hardly wait until the day they come back to pick up their new puppy.  Looks like this little girl, now known as Scout, is going to have her work cut out for her keeping up with this active family.  Or, do you think it may be the other way around!

Lou Jr. and his mom and dad settled in on Shelby's pretty lemon and white female.  They're still working on just the right name for this little pup, but I'm sure her name isn't what Lou was dreaming about last night.

Sarah and Andrew picked Powder's adorable little girl and have decided to call her Penny.  All I can say is, a picture speaks a thousand words.  How cute is this new family?!

Joan, Bill, and Lauren didn't take long at all to decide on this handsome little guy and they couldn't be happier.  Powder's little boy will now be known as Charlie.  I have a feeling Charlie is going to be spending alot of time sitting on Bill's lap!

I think little Max picked his mommy and daddy instead of it being the other way around.  He kept climbing up the side of the pool for daddy Matt to pick him up.  After that Matt couldn't resist anymore and decided Powder's one and only open marked tri puppy definitely had a new home.

Little Junior has a new mommy and a new name.  I think Janet probably already had her mind made up before she got here, but if she had any doubts before seeing Cody, they all went away the minute I placed him in her arms.  I've always known he was a little sweetheart.  Janet thinks so too!

It was a happy reunion as Lewis, aka Van Gogh, finally got to meet his new mommy Elyse yesterday.  Of course it was totally love at first sight for Elyse, not to mention Lewis' joy as he showered his new mommy with tons of kisses.  Soon it will be a big plane ride on mommies lap as Lewis flies back to his new home in Texas.   I have a feeling this little man is not going to want for ANYTHING!

Mom and dad kept the surprise from young Doug all week that they were buying him a new puppy, so you can imagine the shock he felt when dad pulled in our driveway and told him he was getting a new little puppy.  Doug fell instantly in love with his new little girl, Shiloh, and can't wait until next Saturday when he can come back and pick her up.  Trust me, this is one happy boy!

And puppy makes TEN!!!  Okay, don't ask me all the kids names, but trust me, this is one big happy family even without a new puppy, but now, Daisy has made them even happier, if that's possible.  Nice meeting Bill and Sheri and the rest of the clan.

5/27/08

Powder's pups are just under six weeks old and are doing great.  They've already begun the weaning process, as Mama Powder doesn't want to spend all her time with the pups anymore.  They're doing great though.  They have been eating puppy food for a couple of weeks now and love it.  Click here to see their new video taken just this morning.

May 27, 2008

Shelby's pups have been moved outside to the big kennel and are loving the extra room and freedom to run and play.  The big dogs are enjoying the babies being there as well.  The pups are still nursering, but only twice a day.  The weaning process has begun.  Hopefully by next Monday they will be completely separated from their mommy.
