Our pretty little Shelby is enjoying her last meal in the big kennel.  Soon after she was moved to our whelping kennel where she will have her puppies and remain with them until they're almost ready to leave with their new families.  Just 5 more days to go till her due date..... Feb. 23rd is coming quickly.

Shelby had four beautiful little puppies on 2/21/07.   Two days short of her due date.  She had two tri colored females and two lemon and white males.  She had a very easy time of it and whelped all four of her puppies in just three hours.  She even had them during the day hours, which doesn't usually happen.  A good nights sleep for everyone tonight.  Click here to view a video of Shelby and her babies just minutes after they were born.

Shelby and the pups are doing great.  At five days old, the puppies are gaining weight nicely.  Each already weighing over a pound.  Shelby is  great mom.  She's very attentive to her pups and keeps them spotless. 

March 3, 2007

At ten days old Shelby's pups are now starting to open their eyes.  They are getting big and strong and are creeping their way all around the whelping box.   Our biggest puppy (front lemon and white) is almost two pounds.  The others are not that much smaller, so they're all doing really well.  Mommy Shelby is enjoying motherhood, and although she enjoys getting away and running in the yard with the rest of the group, she's always anxious to get back to her puppies.

March 10, 2007
Shelby's spending a little time just chillin with her family.  The puppies are doing exceptionally well and becoming more and more alert when they hear my voice.  They're now starting to get up on all four paws and attempting to take little steps.  They're close to three pounds each.  II really expected them to be nice size pups since only four of them have to fight to find a nipple....  More than two nipples each are pretty good odds.  At  2 1/2 weeks old, I'm very happy with their progress.

Up close and personal
Meet Shelby's puppies at 3 1/2 weeks old. 

    
Rick and Sheila waited a whole year to get a new puppy after losing their precious Emily.  Today was a very special day for the two of them as they met and fell instantly in love with their new little girl, Betsy.

    
Iris and husband Bob are thrilled with their new little boy Max.  Lucky Max not only has a big beagle sister named Maggie, but his family are friends with the family who owns his real sister, Bailee.  On this day, Max and Bailee were having a play date.  The two littermates are lucky enough to grow up together.

How special is THAT!  

    
And now a drum roll please!!!!  It took a while but Joanne and Harry picked cute, adorable, sweet Bailee.  It would have been a hard choice for anyone, including myself, but pretty little Bailee is a doll and I'm sure Baxter and Brandy are going to love her.

    
I think if I let her, Tracy would still be in our nursery holding her new puppy Jagger.  It was instant love for Tracy and a smile that didn't leave her face from the minute I placed her puppy in her arms.  Jagger is one lucky little beagle who will probably never know what it's like to have his feet touch the floor.
