 BECAUSE

. . . It's Official . . .

Cami is having PUPPIES!!

Cami, our beautiful lemon and white beagle had a pregnancy test done today (4/22) and the results came back positive.  She is definitely expecting puppies.  She's about 28 days along, and is due around May 26th.  The sire to her litter is Field Champion Run-Jump Tequila Sunrise, who just happens to be our little Sammy's daddy too.
Stop back and watch Cami's story unfold.

Poor Sunny looks a little pooped!

Cami is exactly three weeks away from delivery in these photos.  Today while taking her daily stroll for exersise in the yard I decided to take some photos.  She's doing great and really isn't very big at all.  I'm not sure if that means a small litter or small puppies, but whatever she has we'll be happy with them.  We're starting to get very excited around here, even though Cami isn't acting any differently yet.  She's got plenty of energy and isn't phased in the least by her pregnancy.  By next week this time I expect to see a dramatic change in her appearance and energy...

and here we go again...

Belle and Sammy

Belle loves the water.  Every chance she gets she will stand in it or dunk her head under.  She even enjoys swimming in our lake.  But now it looks like she'll be going on a whole new adventure, MOTHERHOOD!   A first time mommy, Belle is going to be an excellent mother.  She is very caring and inquisitive whenever we have little ones in the kennel.  It's going to be interesting and very sweet watching her care for her very own family.  Her pups are due around June 4th.  Just 10 days after Cami's little ones arrive.  Stay tuned as we watch both stories unfold.

May 11, 2005

Cami and Belle are doing great.  With just two weeks to go Cami is getting a little clingy.  Her appetite, which is usually VERY picky has taken a complete turn, wanting to eat anything that's not tied down.  She still has plenty of energy and loves the freedom of prancing around the yard most of the day.  You can feel the tiny little movements of her puppies when you hold the palm of your hand on her tummy.

Belle who has 3 1/2 weeks to go is starting to get big.  There's not much to report on her for now, but she's doing fine.  This will be the first time we've had little bluetick pups, so we're excited to see her little ones.

May 16, 2005

Cami is starting to slow down a little.  Taking a few more naps than usual every day, she's starting to store up her energy for the big day.  She's not real big, but with ten days left to go this is where the puppies will begin to grow rapidly.  I've switched her to puppy food at this point to ensure she gets enough protein in her diet.  Her milk has already come in, and there is plenty there to feed the crew.

Belle is also doing well.  With 20 days to go, Belle is definitely looking pregnant.  Her tummy is big, round, and hard.  I have a feeling Belle has what we call a full boat.  I hate to start predicting how many puppies, but I'm expecting Cami to have 6 maybe 7, and Belle to have 8 maybe 9.  Like I say everytime, I have nothing to base this on, just a wild guess.

May 20th

Who'd believe she only has 6 days to go!  Cami is looking and feeling great!  Nothing left to do but wait for her little ones to get bigger and stronger for delivery day, which hopefully will happen around next Thursday the 26th.

May 23rd

Cami and Belle out for their daily stroll.  They like to stay close and explore the pond.

Belle not only likes having her 24 hour water bowl always available to her, but she even takes an occassional dip from time to time.

Cami has just three days till her due date in this photo.  She's hanging in there and is in pretty good shape.  Her temperature has dropped to 99 degrees, which usually means labor is approaching, but we're waiting for another sharp drop by about 2 degrees before we start boiling the water.  Absolutely keeping a close eye on her at this point!

From the looks on Belle's face you would think she's the one who is due any day, but the truth is she still has 12 more days before her due date.  Poor Belle.

A look at Cami's belly with 3 days to go

and Belle's Belly with 7 days to go

It has been assumed that since Cami has already past her due date from her first breeding by 3 days, we feel the second breeding, which was five days after the first breeding is the one that truely took.... So, her new due date is May 31st.  Cami still has plenty of energy and as you can tell from the photo, her ears are up and she's looking pretty sharp.  The only thing I really worry about is both of them being in labor at the same time, and that is a possibility. Belle's due date is still 7 days away, but poor Belle is starting to really feel the effects of pregnancy. (look at her ears!)  She's slowed way down and is totally in her needy mode.  She follows me all over the place.  No matter where I go she's right next to me or following behind me.  It's actually cute. She's carrying much bigger than Cami and pretty much whobbles around the yard.  She would much rather be laying down then up on her feet these days.

Cami had her pups today, 5/30.  She had 4 males and 2 females, but one of the little males didn't make it.  The five surviving pups seem healthy and have all found their way to mommy's milk.  Their weight ranges from 7 ounces on up to 11 ounces.  This photo was taken just minutes after the last puppy was born.  See if you can find ALL five of Cami's pups in the photo.

Here's a photo of Cami resting between contractions at 3:00am on 5/30.

My new puppy and ME

First pup (female)
Thrilled with their new puppy, Jake and his sister picked out Cami's first puppy born, and have named her Bandit.

Front foreground is the third puppy born (male)

Fourth pup born (male)
Here's my little boy, Jake.  Is that a face or WHAT!?  Hopefully by this time next year I'll be posting photos of his offspring.  Terry

Pup number 5 (male)
Cami's little boy Jack is the lucky little puppy to get Chosen by the Quinley family. A sweet little puppy who made a little girl VERY happy today.

Last puppy, number six.  (female)
One look at Chloe and it was all over for Matt and Danielle.  Cami's little lemon and white puppy will now be living with the Garcia family, and they couldn't be happier.  Incidentally, if Matt looks a little familiar to you it's because you've probably seen him on television.  Matt's Channel 11's News Reporter and Anchor Person.

.....And so the story continues.....

Poor Belle feels exactly like she looks.  I'm sure she's looking forward to delivery day.  Not too many expectant mother's can say THAT!!!  With just 3 days to go Belle is out of energy, lost her appetite, and  totally needy, with only wanting her human family around her.... I'm actually hoping she delivers early, just for her sake....  I'm thinking she probably has 7 to 9 puppies.  We'll see soon enough.

6/2/05

Belle started delivering her puppies yesterday at 8:00 PM and had her last puppy 4:45 AM this morning.  She had 8 beautiful puppies.   Their markings are great and have the sweetest faces.  All four girls and four boys are doing fine.  They are nice size puppies ranging in weight from 10 ounces to over 13 ounces.  One little fellow we already nicknamed Bubba.  Belle is exhausted but will get plenty of rest today while she lays with her pups.  She swiched gears and went right into her motherhood role as soon as her first puppy was delivered.    She's a great mother, and was especially generous in sharing her new pups with her human family.
She did a great job and we're so proud of her!

Puppy one (female)
Margaret had a hard time deciding, and would have taken two if she could have talked Glen into it, but they're very happy with little Abby, Belle's little bluetick pup.

Puppy two (male) Bubba
Adam and Kirsten are thrilled with their new puppy Braxton.  They're already counting the days till they can pick him up.  FYI, Adam is a production assistant on the TV show Law and Order SVU.

Puppy three (female)
Adie and Dave already knew which puppy they were picking before they even got here....  Bailey is Belle's little bluetick girl and the couple are just simply delighted with their new addition.

Puppy four (male)
One happy little boy just got the surprise of his life when he thought he was going to a familiy function, but was really being surprised by his parents with his very own beagle puppy.  A puppy who will now be called Max.

Puppy Five (female)
Dana and Andy had no trouble deciding on Belle's one and only little lemon and white female who will now be known as Gracie.  A sweet little girl who will make a great playmate to big step brother or uncle or something like that to Mickey.

Puppy six (male)
Anthony and Nicole are the new proud owners of one of Belle's little boys whom they have already named Boomer.  And Boomer will be getting a new brother as soon as Cutie Pie is bred and has another  little boy for them.

Puppy seven (female)
It was unanimous, Cookie is the puppy for the Marinello family.   Gina, John and the kids are very excited about their new puppy and can't wait until they come back to pick her up and take her home.

Puppy eight (male)
If these two kids look familiar it's not because they have identical twins.  Nicole and Anthony decided to come back for another puppy and round out their family to an even four.  Brothers Boomer and Riley are going to keep the Supino household jumping....

AND daddy Sammy.... A BIG PUPPY HIMSELF!

June 12, 2005

Cami and her pups are doing great.  At 13 days old their eyes are starting to open and they're definitely beginning to look like little puppies.  Our little male pup, who we have affectionately started calling "Buddy" is doing great!  Absolutely the smallest puppy of any of our litters, but full of energy and life.  We're happy to report he weighed in at 10 ounces this morning.

Belle's pups are also doing fine.  Their eyes are not open yet, but within the next few days that should happen.  I'm happy to report Belle and Sammy are a winning breeding combination.  Their pups are all beautiful with exceptional markings.  Even Sammy's lemon and white gene came out giving us two little lemon pups.  So far none of mommies ticking on any of the puppies, but Belle is a great mother.  She was born to nurture.....

6/16

Cami's pups are getting big.  The biggest pup, (right side) weighs almost 3 pounds already.  The others are not far behind her.  They're trying to get up on all fours but aren't quite there yet.  Their eyes are open wide and if you run your fingers against their gum line you will feel little points where their teeth are starting to come in.  They're absolutely beautiful puppies!!!!

Belle's pups are every bit as beautiful as Cami's.  A little smaller in size, but they're all doing great.  They're actually having a little easier time getting up on all fours.  Probably because of their size.  Watching them is so much fun as they try to play bite and little puppy growls.  Two even attempted leaving the nest the other day.  I had to put a step in there so they couldn't get out.  They're very inquisitive little guys.  Very sweet and very beautiful...

Buddy
Our little guy is weighing in at 14 ounces today and doing great.  5 more weeks to go until surgery on his cleft pallate.  Buddy is perfectly healthy in every other way, so we're keeping positive thoughts that he'll stay that way for the big day.  The girls say he's doing great with no signs of congestion, which is fantastic news.  This little guy is full of energy and life.   Hang in there Buddy!

6/21

Cami and Belle enjoyed a little time meeting each others family.  All the pups were together as the moms came in sniffing and even cleaning each others pups.  Clearly an idication of just what great temperaments our dogs have.  Mother's sharing each others babies is not something two females are inclined to do.  It just goes to show how special these two mommies are.

It's hard to tell in the photos, but ticking is starting to appear on a few of Belle's pups

Our First REAL Meal
After a rough few days with puppy visits, the pups have worked up QUITE an appetite!  Here are all 12 puppies enjoying their first taste of puppy food.  As you can see they are really enjoying the experience, especially Belle's pups..... I guess the old saying is true,

"The apple's don't fall far from the tree."

Buddy Update

I spoke to Buddy's caretakers today and they told me he was doing great.
He weighed in at 15 ounces today and very soon they're going to start feeding him
puppy food, which should help put a little more weight on him.  Gaining weight has been slow going, but at least he's still gaining.  He's showing no signs of congestion, which is fantastic news.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate what these ladies are doing for this puppy.

I brought all 12 of the puppies up on the deck thinking they would love getting out of their kennel where they would have plenty of room to run and play...  INSTEAD, they cried their eyes out and couldn't wait to get back to their familiar, safe, secure whelping area.  I did manage to get one photo off and as luck would have it, all 12 are in it, along with part of Pam's body..... However, it should be enough using process of elimation to figure out which puppy is yours.  Enjoy!

I'm happy to say all the puppies are in their new homes and are doing great.  I'm sure the pups are putting huge smiles of joy and happiness on each of their new family members faces.  Even our boy Jake is doing his job in the smile department.  We're thrilled to keep him and working real hard at making him a house dog.  Both Jake and Cami are  happy not to be too far from each other, and spend plenty of time playing together.
Hopefully next year this time we'll be watching Jake's "Stork Story" unfold.

This little guy is doing great.  Doris and Tara have taken such wonderful care of him the past several months.  Sonny, aka Buddy now weighs almost 9 pounds.  He eats regular dog food just like his brothers and sisters.  He knows how to sit and lay down on command and even attends puppy classes.  He's totally housebroken and so well socialized that he gets along with and loves everyone he meets.  You can't help but fall instantly in love with this little guy.  This puppy is such a star to the people in his life.  I even get the feeling Buddy knows what a special little guy he is, and how much he's loved by the people around him.  At first the plan was to get Buddy healthy and strong enough for adoption, but now that's all changed.  Doris can't part with him, and after spending time with this little guy, it's very clear why.  To meet him is to understand the true meaning of life, survival, and spirit.  I remember handing him to Tara weighing about 13 ounces while his littermates were already 3 and 4 pounds.  This little guy has come a long way thanks to all the love and nurturing these two wonderful ladies gave him.  For now there will be no surgery to repair his cleft palet.  He eats normally, except he has a little trouble drinking water.  Doris and Tara are consulting with a specialist in this area to get their take on his situation.  Since he's doing so well, perhaps surgery isn't the answer for him at this time.
We'll check back again in a few months and see where it all goes.

I am so happy to see your little "miracle" puppy doing so well.  I think he the luckiest pup because he had a few special people who gave me a chance.

I will keep him in my thoughts and prayers and I look forward to see his progress as he grows up to be a big boy!

Best wishes always,
Maria G. Cascio

I am just in tears looking at the new pictures of Buddy. He is just gorgeous!! There are no words to describe what you've done for him. He is truly a very special angel, and it is nothing short of a miracle that he is the happy healthy puppy he is today. Kudos to everyone, I am so thrilled that he is doing so well!

Buddy Update
I went to see Buddy/Sonny last night and couldn't believe my eyes.  He's this beautiful little tiny beagle puppy who plays and runs around just like all the other pups.  He's just tiny, very tiny.  He weighs 1 pound 10 ounces and is now eating baby food.  He likes chicken as his main dish and sweet potatoes as his veggie.  He's got a nice round full tummy when you hold him and he loves licking your face.  His surgery is not scheduled yet because they want to wait and see how he's doing in a couple of weeks.  He needs to gain some more weight first, but he looks GREAT!

I'm sorry but I don't have any photos of him.  I dropped my camera just as I was about to take my first photo and couldn't get it working again...
