Congratulations

to our first time mom

Ally

It's all happy news here at New Jersey Beagles as we announce our pretty girl Ally is FINALLY bred and expecting puppies.  Her litter is due around August 1st and of course we couldn't be happier.  This will be Ally's first litter so we are very excited for her and just as excited to see the beautiful litter of pups we're sure she will produce.  We just know she's going to be an excellent mom based on her great personality and the kind and gentle dog she is.  Be sure to stick around as we watch Ally's stork page unfold.
Good Luck To Our Sweet Girl!

Ally is only 33 days into her pregnancy and is already showing quite a bit.  Usually we don't even make a determination whether or not a dog is expecting until they're at least 40 days along, but Ally was showing signs so early on that I just couldn't ignore it.  Here you can see how her tummy is already extended and she has lost her slim waist line.

In this photo our little show off is making sure we have a good look at her enlarged nipples, which I might add, started two weeks after she was bred, so I already had a pretty good idea she was bred long before I started her stork page, and I believe she will have company too.

The Happy Couple

Ally was bred to Wilson's Abe on May 30, 2009.  Abe is a 3 year old stud dog owned by a good friend of mine.  Abe is a 14 inch beagle.  He's a healthy young dog who comes from a very impressive pedigree with lots of field champions in his back ground.  Actually, Abe is only just a couple of points away from becoming a field champion himself.  Abe took one look at my little Ally and he was star struck.  I'd have to say it was love at first sight.

It's July 6th and Ally is just hanging around the yard watching the other dogs play.  I guess she's getting a better view of things from up top of the big stumps.

I think Josie's a little concerned Ally might hurt herself.  You know, in her condition and all and being up on the big stumps.  She wouldn't want Ally to fall.

Josie's a good friend and from the looks of her tummy, she may even be Ally's roommate in the nursery soon.  Just a little too soon to make the official announcement, but I'm leanning that way.  If so, Josie would be due just a week after Ally.  I'll know more within a week or so.

The Happy Couple
July 10,2009

Okay, so lets make it official.  It looks like it's going to be a pretty busy summer for New Jersey Beagles.  It's day 34 for Josie and her cute little belly is starting to pop.  Wilson's Abe will also be the daddy to her puppies.  Josie will be a mommy just one week after Ally, which makes her due date around August 8th.

July 18, 2009

The girls are enjoying a morning stroll in the kennel yard.

Ally is due in just two short weeks but you would never know it.  Sometimes I look at her and can hardly believe she's even expecting.  She's so small that I'd have to predict she's only having about 3, maybe 4 puppies.  I could however be totally wrong.  This is her first litter so I have nothing to base this on.  She's carrying more low than wide so maybe that's the difference.  These next two weeks are when she should be making the most dramatic change in her appearance, as the puppies will now grow rapidly.  She will also become less active, and her appetite will greatly increase.  Soon I should be able to feel the puppies moving by placing the palm of my hand on her tummy.  That's always an exciting time for me.  I'll be sure to let you know as soon as I feel the puppies move.  Her milk has already come in, so we're all ready.  We're just waiting for the little guys to grow.

Josie is due in three weeks and has a pretty nice size tummy.  Not a huge litter for her, but I guess an average size of around six puppies.  She still has a lot of energy and good spirit.   A bit needy and definitely needs her human mommy a little more than usual, but that's alright.  She's doing fine with not too much to report right now.

All and all I'd say the girls are doing really well.  They look simply adorable and seem to be handling this new adventure they're on pretty well, although I must admit, sometimes they do look at me like they're wondering what the heck is going on with this new body they're carrying around.  Josie who used to keep up with the gang running the kennel yard, now waddles far behind, while Ally has the difficult task of scratching her ear when it was so simple to do just a couple of weeks ago.....   And now they look to me with those loving, adoring eyes ALL THE TIME!  The eyes that ONLY I can comfort, because  right now, Mama Terry has become the center of their universe.   Just look at Josie's eyes in her photo!  But trust me, in just a few short weeks they will gladly trade me in for the sweet, soft cries of their new family as their focus will quickly shift the second their first puppies emerge.
And then, rightfully so, mama Terry is no more.

July 25,2009

Here's our girl with just one more week to go.  The puppies are growing nicely, and this past week really made the difference, as Ally has FINALLY started to look pregnant to me.  This was the week where she finally blossomed.  She hasn't put on a lot of weight so everything you see there is all puppy belly.  Some of us women wish we carried as nicely as she did.  The pups are very active and kicking up a storm.  Starting Monday I will begin taking Ally's temperature to establish a pattern until eventually we see the biggest sign that labor is approaching.  The sudden drop of her normal 101 degree temp to around 97 or less.  Usually the first puppy is born within 18 hours of that drop in temperature.

Let's see, what can I say about Josie.... Josie is Josie.  She's happy, playful, active, and full of spirit.  She's doing great.  She's getting pretty big.  She's due in two weeks.  I think she's going to be pretty big by the time she's ready to have her puppies.  Maybe a little bigger litter than I first thought based on her size at this point.  Also her mommy usually has a pretty big litter of 8 or 9 puppies, so that may say something, but not necessarily.  I think she'll have about 7 puppies.  She's doing great.....

Here are the girls having the yard to themselves while the rest of the gang looks on.

Ally's puppy came five days early on 7/27/09.  Once she had her first puppy, she popped all six of them out in a record breaking 3 1/2 hours, and she was even considerate enough to finish at a decent hour instead of keeping me up all night long.  All five girls and one lonely little boy are doing fine.  Ally is being a very good mommy and is being very attentive to her new family.  She did a GREAT job.  That's my girl!

The pups are three days old now and are doing great.  Ally is taking wonderful care of them.  They're gaining weight daily and mom is keeping them sparkling clean.

7/30/09

Now it's time to turn our attention back to Josie.  As youcan see, Josie is quite LARGE, and with still having 8 more days to go, I can't imagine her making it to her due date.  Either that or she's going to have a lot of puppies.  I guess that's yet to be seen.  I will tell you that she has slowed W A Y down and is doing a lot of resting these days.  It's much too early for her to go into labor at this point, but Monday will be her 58th day, so anytime after that is possible.

8/1/2009

Josie delivered six beautiful puppies, AND, a whole week early on August 1st.  Now THAT certainly is a first for us.  Worried that these pups were coming just a little too early, my vet said to proceed normally and expect that the pups my be underweight and a little immature.  Possibly might not be able to find moms nipples.  WRONG!!!  These guys are normal birth weights and having no problems nursing.  I'm simply amazed
.  We did lose two pups, as one was extremely tiny and the last pup was still born, but the remaining six seem to be doing very well.  Josie had four girls and two boys.

Nice job Josie Girl.  I'm proud of YOU!

8/11/09

Ally and her pups are doing FANTASTIC!!!
The puppies are now two weeks old and are fat little piggies.  They each weigh over 2 pounds.  Their eyes and ears are now open and they are creeping along in their whelping area. By the end of the week they'll be trying to stand on all fours.  Ally is a wonderful mother.  She keeps her puppies extremely clean and she is very attentive.

Look, we have eyes now!

All that eating and gaining weight makes these puppies very tired!

8/11/09

Josie's puppies are doing just as well.  Only five days younger than Ally's, but born a week early, Josie's pups are only several ounces behind Ally's in weight.  They're close to 1 1/2 pounds already too!  Josie's doing a great job with her pups.  We did lose one little male pup, but the rest of the puppies are doing really well.   Their eyes are not open yet, but they will within the next couple of days.

Josie's five puppies @ just 11 days old.  Four females, one male.

8/18/09

Ally's kids are three weeks old today and are not only starting to walk, but they now have little teeth.  They're starting to play and wrestle with each other, and they even have little puppy barks and growls.  They're starting to get a little too big for they're own good though.  Twice two of them escaped from their whelping area out onto the big kennel and couldn't get back in.  Mama Ally for some reason can't pick them up with her mouth so she just cries.  It's very sad.  Luckily I was out there one time when it happened.  I guess it's time to hook up the 4th camera.

Josie's pups are 16 days old, and what a difference five days makes.  Sweet little babies doing everything 16 day old puppies should be doing, and definitely big pups for their age.  Already over 2 1/2 pounds.  In just a couple of days they'll be doing exactly what Ally's puppies are doing right now.  Soon there will be no comparing the two litters, as those five days is not going to matter anymore.

What A Day 8/24/09

The puppies started out yesterday by all piling into the car and driving down to the vets office to have their very first check up.  All 11 pups got to ride together in the tupperware container to the vets office.  Of course once we got there everyone made a big deal over all the cute little beagle puppies.  All 11 pups had to be held, cuddled, and kissed before, during, and after their check ups.  The good news is all 11 puppies got a clean bill of health.

After getting home the pups were exhausted and fell right to sleep, but when they woke up Josie's pups went right into a wrestling match,

While Ally's puppies decided they wanted to experience their first meal.  That's right, while feeding their mommy the puppies tried stealing her food, so I decided to give them their own kibble, AND THEY LOVED IT!!!  You're witnessing their very first meal~~~

Meet My New Puppy

Sarah got to pick out her own puppy, and Molly it was.  She knew which puppy she wanted,
and she was stucking with it!

Russell, Noreen, and Chayse went with the non traditional looking beagle and are very excited about their new puppy.  They can't wait to bring their little girl Sage home.  Sage is Black, brown, and white, and LOADED with black and brown ticking.  She's very unique.....

Andrew and Michelle were all smiles and giggles when they saw the puppies, but when Seven cuddled up and fell asleep in Andrew's lap I guess she was just too comfortable to leave.

Doris had a lot of puppies to choose from, but there was something about Darla....  She just HAD to have this puppy.  I guess it was that sweet little face!

Irene and Rich picked Ally's little look-a-like.  This little puppy is the spitting image of her mommy and with a personality to match.  Sweet Jenny is a little cuddle bug.

Jose is still out numbered in this ALL female household.  The girls picked Ally's pretty little bluetick female and named her Sophie.

Janet and her family picked one puppy from each litter.  Her little boy, Chase is from Josie's litter and Karley is from Ally's litter.  Both pups are half siblings.

Mary and Jerry picked Josie's more tradional looking female.  It's Mary's first beagle in a long time and she's very excited about bringing Abigail home.

Heidi and son Josh didn't get to choose their puppy but they didn't care.  They were very happy with their little girl and named her Bella.

Meet the newest addition to New Jersey Beagles.
Officially his name will be NJB's Big Shoes To Fill Oliver Boots.  We'll simply call him Oliver.

Ally's puppies are leaving in just a couple of more days, but they all wanted to pose for one last photo together before they left.

From left to right is, I think,

Darla, Oliver, Karly, Sophie, Jenny, and Sage.

Taking a group photo of Josie's active little bunch of puppies is easier said then done.  Lets just say a bribe to get them all in one place and staying still is what got this photo taken, but with the pups leaving in just one more day we just had to get one farewell photo of these sweet babies.

From left to right is Chase,Bella, Seven, Molly, and
Abigail.
